Getting a Library Card

eCard – Online Only

An eCard offers you online services to access from home or on your mobile devices such as:

  • Streaming or downloading ebooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, music and magazines.
  • Building your job skills or kickstarting your school year with our online learning tools.
  • Accessing newspaper archives and genealogy resources.

Cards to Checkout Items at the Library

Standard Library Cards – Adult and Children

Ohio residents may apply for a standard library card at the Check-out desk. Adult patrons may apply for a card for themselves or their children (see below) with proper identification such as a valid Ohio driver’s license or State identification and proof of address. Birth dates and driver’s license numbers are required on all library cards.

Minor children may receive a standard card with full borrowing privileges once a parent or guardian presents the required photo identification and proof of address. (see above) The parent or guardian’s name will be added to the child’s card along with their valid Ohio driver’s license or State identification number. Legal guardians must show proof of guardianship before
the card will be issued. The child must be able to write their first name and be present when the card is issued.

 

Additional Types of Library Cards

3 for Me Cards - Children

This card does not require a parent or guardian’s signature and may be issued to children 12 years of age or younger and can write their first name. The card may only be used at EPL and Holds cannot be placed. The child may check out up to 3 juvenile books only, use the library’s computers and have access to online resources such as tutoring, entertainment and other databases. Children may be issued a 3 for Me card in addition to a standard library card.

Teen Triad Cards - Teens

This card does not require a parent or guardian’s signature and may be issued to teens 13 – 17 years of age. The card may only be used at EPL and Holds cannot be placed. The teen may check out up to 3 books only, use the library’s computers and have access to online resources such as tutoring, entertainment and other databases. Teens may be issued a Teen Triad card in addition to a standard library card.

Educator Cards - Adults

In addition to a standard library card, an adult educator may apply for an Educator card. The purpose of this card is for educators to check out items for their students without using their personal library card. An educator card has a longer loan period of 42 days on most items and are financially responsible for checkouts. To learn more, visit our library and inquire at the Checkout desk.

Temporary Card - Adults

This card is for adults who are unable to qualify for a standard library card and is offered to new or temporary residents with photo identification, but without proof of address. Temporary cards have a reduced checkout limit, expire after one year and may be upgraded to a full privilege standard adult card once proof of address and proper identification is provided.

 

Renewing Expired Cards, or Replacement Cards

Renew Expired Cards from Home

Patrons with an expired card may have their card renewed and converted to an eCard after confirming specific personal information. Once the card is converted, the patron cannot check out physical items until proper identification is shown at the library. Call the library at 216-261-5300 extension 5189 for assistance.

Renew Card at the Library

Patrons with an expired card may have their card renewed or replaced (get a new card) after showing proper identification at the library. Children may have their parents or guardians show proper identification to obtain a replacement card. After proper identification is shown the card will be changed from an eCard to a card allowed to check out physical items at the library.

 

Using Your Library Card at the Library to Checkout Items

Possession of a library card implies permission to use the card to borrow materials and pick up holds. Possession of the card and knowledge of the last 4-digits of the telephone number implies permission to use the card and to have access to the account. Proper identification such as an Ohio driver’s license or State identification may be used by the owner of the card or any designated person on the account.

The library card which was used to place a hold must be the card used to pick up the hold.

An adult cardholder must be present and show proper identification to check out certain library items.

eCard FAQ

When will I receive my eCard number?

Your Library eCard number will be emailed to you as soon as possible, usually within 24-48 hours.

Do I need an eCard if I have a Euclid Public Library Card?

No, your regular library card allows you all of the benefits of an eCard and more. If you already have a library card, or your library card is expired, please do not use this form. Please visit Euclid Public Library or email us at ecard@euclidlibrary.org

What can I do with my eCard?

Is there anything my eCard cannot do?

  • Physical materials cannot be checked out with eCards
  • Holds for physical materials may not be placed with an eCard
  • Meeting rooms cannot be reserved with an eCard.

I don’t have a regular library card. How do I upgrade my eCard to a regular card?

To upgrade your eCard to checkout physical items or reserve a meeting room at the library, visit Euclid Public Library and ask for eCard assistance at the checkout desk. Please bring your valid Ohio Drivers’ License or State I.D. and proof of address.

Fine Free FAQ

FAQ about Euclid Public Library’s New Fine-Free Policy: 

 

  • Why is Euclid Public Library eliminating overdue fines (Fine-Free)? Euclid Public Library is interested in eliminating overdue fines as a way to make the library more accessible to everyone in Euclid. As long as patrons return library items, we no longer see a need to charge overdue fines. 

     
  • What does Fine-Free mean and when will this take effect? This change will begin on September 1, 2022, and pertains ONLY to items that belong to Euclid Public Library. This means patrons will not have to pay an overdue fine for checked out Euclid Public Library items. However, any items checked out through CLEVNET via a hold that do NOT belong to Euclid Public Library are subject to the owning library’s circulation rules. Please ask a staff person if you need help identifying items that may not be part of our fine-free program. 

     
  • Does this mean that ALL my fines will be cleared? No. We can’t waive fines for items that belong to other libraries. Charges for any damaged or lost items must also be paid. 

     
  • Does this mean ALL items are Fine-Free? No. Fine-Free applies to the collection owned by Euclid Public Library. 

     
  • How will the library ensure that customers return borrowed items? If an item is not returned within 21 days after the due date, the cost of the item(s) will be added to the patron’s account. 

     
  • How will the library protect the community’s investment? When checked out items are damaged or lost, we will continue to add the cost to replace these item(s) to the patron’s card. When a patron’s fines and/or replacement costs exceeds the threshold limits, they are blocked from using the library. 

     
  • I thought you were fine free! Why do I see overdue fines on my account? Overdue fines will continue to appear on your account, but will be removed when the item is returned. 

     
  • What if I am not finished with the items I have checked out? Visit the library or our website, or give us a call to renew your item(s). Renewing item(s) by the due date will help you avoid issues with your card. It is very important for you to keep track of the due dates. Keep in mind, some items renew automatically, up to 20 times and some items can’t be renewed.
